The South African Library for the Blind is a Schedule 3A Public Entity, an agency of the National Department
of Sports, Arts and Culture, and is governed by the provisions of the South African Library for the Blind Act,
91 of 1998.
Located in Makhanda (Grahamstown) in the Eastern Cape, the South African Library for the Blind (SALB)
provides a national library and information service to blind and print-disabled readers in South Africa. It is a
national institution with an international reputation.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified SA citizens for the undermentioned position(s) to commence
in June 2026 or earlier.
POST OVERVIEW:
To support the production of accessible audio content through audio editing, DAISY-compliant processing,
quality control, metadata management, and studio technical support, while contributing to production
continuity and accurate reporting within Audio Production.
Minimum Requirements:
• Grade 12 plus an NQF Level 5 qualification from an accredited institution in Sound Production, Audio
Technology, Sound Engineering, or Digital Media with audio production components. Minimum of 3
years’ experience in an audio production studio or similar digital media environment.
• Advantageous: NQF Level 6 in a listed field.
• Technical Competencies: Audio editing, DAISY production, metadata management, quality control,
and first-line studio troubleshooting.
Key Responsibilities
• Production of audio titles in line with SALB and DAISY standards.
• Preparation, structuring and processing of source material for audio production.
• Audio editing, clean-up, navigation marking and first quality checks.
• Maintenance of accurate metadata, statistics and production records.
• First-line technical support to narrators, studio operations and production staff.
• Support for operational continuity, including indigenous language production activities.
• Submission of weekly and monthly production statistics and related administrative records.
• Participation in voice tests, demonstrations and departmental support activities.

communication and interpersonal skills; and the ability to work independently and in a team.
Remuneration: Total annual basic salary of R210,518.22 (excluding fringe benefits).
