SALB > WHO WE ARE > Director’s Welcome
Dr. Pateka Ntshuntshe-Matshaya
Chief Executive Officer, South African Library for the Blind
It is my pleasure to welcome you to the newly revamped official website of the South African Library for the Blind (SALB) – a national institution dedicated to enabling equitable access to information, knowledge, and lifelong learning opportunities for persons who are blind, visually impaired, or print-disabled.
Since its establishment in 1919, SALB has stood as a beacon of inclusion and empowerment, transforming lives through accessible reading materials and innovative library services. As we continue to evolve in a digital era, our objective remains clear: to nurture a reading culture within the blind community, preserve the spirit of independence, and promote full participation in society through information access.
Our website serves as both a window into our work and a bridge that connects us to our members, partners, donors and the broader community. Here, you will find valuable information about our services, membership, outreach programmes, and ongoing initiatives aimed at breaking barriers to information access.
We invite you to explore, engage, and partner with us in advancing our mission – “Enabling Equitable and Open Access to Library and Information Services for the Blind, Visually Impaired and Print-Disabled Communities.”
Together, we can continue building a society where information truly belongs to everyone.
Warm regards,
Dr. Pateka Ntshuntshe-Matshaya
